Desaturating Green Edges in FCP Green Screen

I shot some green screen that turned out to have a pretty good key, other than a bit more green fringing around the subject than I would have liked.

I am trying to come up with a way in FCP to desaturate the color of the green edge and fringing to a grey - but so far, I haven't been able to do this without desaturating the background as well and basically thwarting the entire key.

Is this possible? Is there an order in which I can apply the filters to keep my transparent green background and then, once keyed, just turn the green fringing to grey (like the Pleasantville effect)?

Thank you.

(sorry, posted in post-production forum but realized FCP would be better)

Thanks, that was an option that was worth experimenting with.

I found that it left the green fringing replaced with black, however, making the key a little more obvious than if I were able to simply desaturate the color to a grey with the same brightness value...

Thanks for the tip, I may use it an extent - but I am still definitely interested in seeing if the desaturation is possible.

If your using FCP Studio I'd use Motions Keyer. It's much better at pulling keys than FCP.

Final cuts keyer suks.I suggest using After effects. Also Primatte keyer plugin works fantastic.

Hmmm

Again, get the best keyer you can afford, and some run a bunch of money.

FCP is an editing application and only incidentally should be used for keying, although there are a couple of decent FCP filters that will work very well with well shot green screen.

Among my 3rd party favorites is dvmatte pro from dvgarage. RT and fast. Primatte is not RT and not fast, but it produces a good key. Check with Red Giant about a demo. AE with Keylight is very good, but not RT.

RT for keying? Post work is'nt meant to be fast. While i understand then need for speed sometimes. The reality is that if you shoot green screen expect a little time and work to be put into that project.

Yeah I'd go AFX- blows away FCP or Motion's built-in keyers. But truth is, the secret to a good key is proper lighting...
