FEATURE: Derek

First of all i'm glad you're laying off Catholics for this film :P

Secondly, i'm so mad at your right now. Your teaser was flipping AWESOME until you made the stupid ouija board piece fly at the screen and then unnecessarily made the demon guy jump out at the audience. The reason im mad is that if you take out those two things, or at least tone them down considerably, then that would have been one of the best teasers for an indie film i've seen in a long time. As it is it's still a great teaser, but why oh why did you have to take it over the top. Sigh.

Anyway, i'm interested in the film. If I get paid sometime before your campaign is over i'll shoot some money over your way.

I agree about the flying board piece. I was going to mention that, it's should move, but not levitate. Have it shoot off the board or something. But I liked the screamer at the end. I didn't expect it and it got me, so I'd say keep that. I think this will be your best film because you love horror. It shows in the trailer. This is the best trailer I've ever seen from you.

To be honest, I was torn myself about using the levitating indicator shot, but I went with it because it IS a part of the true story and wanted to show that. When we do this for real, levitation shots will be done practically with rig removal (something I've gotten good at doing lately) and it won't come into the camera. If it is "zooming around" the room, then we'll do that CGI since it's blurred anyway.

I may take out the indicator shot from teaser if I can upload the new version to have kickstarter use instead. Any idea if this is possible?

Thanks Nate! Fourth times a charm, right?

Could be. But I hope you're still pushing Leap too. If you get that to the high schoolers, they'll push it themselves. If you can make up a freebie batch. They'll enjoy it. It's interesting. But yea, Derek's lookin' good. I just dropped a little something into the pot. If this doesn't work out on Kickstarter I hope you do an Indiegogo. Good job at explaining the film too.

Thanks Nate, I appreciate it!
ROTB has actually been doing really well! It was shown to a bunch of teenagers in juvenile hall and they loved it!

Reality(tm) as in tire kicking reality, often does not make for 'filmic truth'...

Even when 'super powers' are depicted, in say a film like the first "X-Men"(2000), the Magneto characters powers are first shown while the character is being herded about in a KZ Camp. The power to 'control metal', starts of with small bending of the metal in the KZ Camp gate... then as the emotional state of the Magneto character increases in fear/anger, the power is able to 'bend more'.

In your case, a small 'unexplaned' kinetic action on the part of the indicator, may be better than some sort of UFO action.

Again to use an X-Men example... "X-Men: The Final Stand"(2006), the Magneto character has been injected with a suppressant for his mutation... but the final scene, shows him trying to move a metalic chess piece... and the final shot, shows the chess piece wiggling 'just a little' bit, almost imperceptible... and of course... it's obvious... the suppressant is not 'forever'...

What are your thoughts on just the spinning action, then shortening that shot?

For me, and this really is about many 'hooks' to get people interested... for example "Jaws"... we see the girl in the ocean, maybe the poster has a shark... but initially, all 'you the viewer' hears is the low strings of the music... water's calm... nothing going to happen now... well...

If you want more of the 'psychkinetic' effect, perhaps break it up, show a progression from a small movement... 'oh... not so bad'... then things get more... then things get out of hand... of course at that point you've played your hand and shown the viewer the 'whole' movie... so at some point you just have to leave off...

The idea here is that the progression goes from 'things ok'.... 'slight shift'... but managable... then 'more shift'... then 'out of countrol'...

So, if you cut away from a little jitter of the indicator and the person taken a little back... to 'strange things begin to happen to the people and their reactions', then back to more psychokinetic action of the indicator... more people with things getting even more out of hand... and leave off with a cliffhanger that 'makes' them want to see the whole movie... etc., etc., etc...

How the heck does one make "Jesus Loves Me Yes I Know" creepy? It worked so well it took me a moment to realize what it was. That was very well done. A small but important touch. Good foreshadowing too.

Thanks Nate. I went with the singing kids motif. Singing kids are always creepy. Not having any kids though, I sang it in a creepy voice, the pitched it up two semitones. Glad you liked it! =D
