Depth of field test and results

Hi,

Does anyone know or have done tests... or are there any charts out there to show how much depth of field there is at a given aperture setting + zoom setting?

Reason I ask is we are setting up a shoot with the HVX on a jib and just want to know how much focus there will be in front and in back of the focus plane while moving the jib in and out.

any help is must appreciated... (I know I can do my own tests, but I thought I would ask because people are so helpful on here with advice :)

thanks- :dankk2:

There is an online DoF calculator here. The circle of confusion for the HVX is around 0.004 mm. Don't forget the focal length on the HVX goes from 4.2 mm to 55 mm. Plug it all in with your aperture and focus distance, and there you go!

Guys... thanks so much for the help! :)

...hey Joshua, how did you get that the "circle of confusion" is 0.004 mm? I did find some DOF programs... and found one that can run on my pocket PC... but I was missing that number.

...and mauriziochen, I look forward to your tests... awesome!

There's a circle of confusion calculator on the same page. If you know your lenses focal length and the equivilant 35mm focal length, it will figure it out.
