Deprecitation, Selling EX1 ? Buy F3 ,FS100

as of this afternoon, I'm about to sell my EX1, as I managed to nab an EX3 off of craigslist

Congrats. The F3 has made me appreciate my EX3 all the more, especially the viewfinder. Didn't realize how good I had it with my EX3 until I started trying these recent 3rd party EVFs and the lack of a proper EVF on the F3. I will not be parting with my EX3 anytime soon.

Neither will I! Just firmware updated it to V1.10.

Picked it up off craigslist with a 8GB SxS card, BP-U30 battery, cables, remote, charger, (2) Swit batteries with d-tap, and a Kata bag. $5,500. Hours meter reads 161H.

Already loving the viewfinder.

Now, to sell my EX1...

Just about every camera will depreciate to next to nothing (in 2011 dollars) in five years, (due to America monetizing the debt etc. the dollar value may go down more slowly). But all these cameras will shoot great video for the next 15 years. Just get an F3, (if that's what you want), and shoot great video. Don't even worry about equipment for five years. Worry about your Oscar acceptance speech instead.

well if the $ (or pound) drops the cameras go up in value and resale is more stable

Some notes .. not conclusions

F3 (which needs to be a dreamboat for the money) no 1080 60p

FS100, Single card slot, no infinite recording of boring speeches (without a recorder)

FS100 - 24 OR 25p EU and US models ?

both have ergonomic issues

maybe wait until something sings to me

and neither have high FPS burst !

A (semi) laughable feature.. but one thing as a pro - you always have to have more functionality than what your client has in their hand

Some notes .. corrections! :)

FS100 has an add on memory module that can record in parallel to the other card. I am not sure what the final size or if multiple sizes exist, but this could potentially record for huge amounts of time. Additionally, I am sure a 64Gb card could run for A LONG time. I am sure there will be a break LONG before you fill up a 64Gb card.

FS100 right now is 24 or 25, you are correct. I read a few things from people who talked to Sony about a firmware update in the future to add both, but, I am not sure how true it is. I wouldn't count on it, but it might be possible.

And the FS100 DOES have high FPS burst. I *think* it is 120fps HOWEVER it is SD quality :) Hehe

Noted

Of course I can see little value in needing to roll - did anyone ever pull up a chair and watch ' Dentists Annual Seminar - The Uncut Version'

I have my wants (like 1080 60p) and my clients wants like the ability to record something in its entirety, I can only see the value in doing that near politicians when on gaff alert :)

pre roll anyone?

Well.... the F3 does have 108060p. You need an off board recorder to do it though, as its high band width. (That's how you should be using the F3 any way)

The specs show 2 hours and 50 minutes on a 32Gig card, so 64gigs should be 5 hours and 40 minutes on one card!

I thought Philip said the burst was at 720p? (I can't find a spec on that now.)

He said SD on his blog, but not sure what that means. Also the add on memory module is 128Gb so that would be 10 hours of record time!!! :)
