Dense About ATW Function

Really can hardly wait for Barry's book since I am a little dense about the ATW function.

If shooting in auto mode and running between different lighting scenarios (as I do in run and gun doc type shooting), I see a strong value to ATW and fixing any color issues in post.

Where the manual confuses me, though, is in manual mode and white balancing to A, B or PRST (as in any pro camera), what is the effect of ATW. I was about to assign USER 1 button to ATW assuming that it would then just toggle ATW on and off but then in that config menu I noticed options for ATW and ATWLOCK.

Thanks for something basic here. I thought I knew all about it until I made the mistake of trying to read the manual.

You're on the right track. You can get to ATW through the user button, or through assigning ATW to one of the A/B/PRST switches.

In ATW mode, the white balance is constantly adjusting to the prevailing lighting conditions. ATWLOCK tells it to stop hunting -- whatever the current setting is, it locks that.

OK... thanks, Barry. Expressed your way it makes complete sense. So, as I think through a workflow, best for me to assign a user function to ATWLOCK and that way if I white balance to a A, B or PRST it will hold until I either release it or wb again. Think I've got it now.

Best wishes

Ned
