Re: Demolition

I guess I prefer the the first one - it seems more dramatic but it all depends on what kind of mood you are trying set with the choice of music or without.

They both tell me the same thing but with a different mood & feeling.
Without the atmosphere its raw & I guess, more docu -ish but with the atmosphere it set's the drama waiting to happen.
Sorry to be so obvious in my reply but thats my simple take on this - do you have more background on what this is about ?

:)

Re: Demolition

it's almost a routine in Berlin... buildings just disappear one day. this one in particular, is a building that stood next to a very famous nightclub (lots of nightclubs in berlin are running in those temporary spaces, all about to be destroyed one day).
i was asked to shoot it, together with other 3 cameramen, from 4 different angles. one of the cameras just missed it, so we left with 3 angles... :)
those two edits were made out of my materials. i'm not the director of this piece, which is conducted by three young directors. i was just playing with those materials and couldn't make up my mind, which one of them works better, for whatever it is... a very short documentation of another urban death.

Re: Demolition

I prefer the first one, may be the music sound better with the ambiance and I don't think the band in the second one bring something more. I liked the playback too in the second film.

Re: Demolition

does anybody find this super impose on the first somewhat unecesarry? nobody said anything about it.. i'm struggling here between the purist and the more manipulative approaches...

Re: Demolition

in the 2nd one the band should be shown playing in the end. else there is no sense in showing them setting up IMO.

i do not dislike the superimpose as such and it is actually cool with the person with the red jacket in the end walking though. but i would not let the house "stand up anymore". just show a faint ghost of what was there.

Re: Demolition

Good work. I too like the first one. I also like Alphi69's kurlian aproach showing just a hint or aura if you will of the old building sort of a ghostly look.

Re: Demolition

I think I like the establishing shots of the 1st one. I'm a bit at a loss about the band that starts playing at the end of the second, even though we were introduced to them in the middle of the piece.

And yes, I don't know of the superimposed thing was necessary. I'd try it without.
