Hey guys, I normally only post ski videos on here, but i thought i'd post my work in progress demo reel and see what you guys thought.

Keeping it private on vimeo for now

Password - reel

I used fs100 with noveflex adapter with sony 18-200, zeiss 50mm 1.4, tokina 11-16 and tamron 17-50

Thanks for any input/comments guys. Hope you enjoy it.

Loads of nice shots.
The one at 1:54 is spectacular - but I would have switched off by then

I think you need to decide what your reel is for, maybe -"Evan H - extreme sports"
That might lead to more bookngs?

The song is a bit dodgy especially compared to the opening section with a male singer
The pace of the track and eidt dont really push the exitement
I mean your skiing is the best so put that up the front and cut it
maybe check some redbull or something for inspiration

Camera gear in shot? I read that as an error
Floating graphics look cheap

I found this in one min of searching - sound design, even that is too slow to start .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ztXOzuXd9Q
(watch it with the sound on then off!)

I appreciate the input, working more and more on sound design. Its tough when you have shots of people rapping/singing. I wanna show those shots off, but sometimes with shots like those and narrative, you kind of have to bite the bullet.

If there was any camera gear in shots, it was probably the BTS shoot i did with the mnt bike stuff.

I hope you dont mind. https://vimeo.com/50204224 PWD chop
pace!
Wow, its really interesting to see someone else edit something ive stared at for hours (this reel and may other edits, etc). Very interesting look on things. I see what you're saying. I like having a 1-3 min reel but this idea of a short, 20-30 second reel is very interesting too. Thanks for the input!

Can you get the music?

Turning the corner in the sound design is the biggest challenge I felt had in my reel (changing tracks and pace)

As for the duration I think you have one min, of lot of the shots are dead airtime at the moment

spot the deceisive moment in a shot?

cutting that fast you gottat take a lot of care.. I didnt, but is the camera moving left etc be frame obsessive..

IMO

Also I think you cross the line in some shooting which you may want to consider

Evan,

I'm a big fan of your work that you've shown here but I don't think this reel sells you as well as the previous videos you've posted.

2 mins is fine but you really need to front load your reel with all of your very best bits. If you have a YT account check out the analytics and you'll see that most of your viewers never make it to 1 min. You have to sell yourself in the first 15 seconds and carry those viewers to the end. You can afford to be snappier in the edit and keep the images flowing.

The opening hip-hop section was dull compared to some really superb sports footage. I'd drop it or move it towards the end.

The tracked text was let down by poor font choice which clashed with the Sports Den branding. Tracked text is not cheap per se but there needs to be a motivation for using it. Animate it on and of as well as get it to interact with the environment more.

Keep up the great work.

I agree with morgan that the cuts could be sped up to highlight your best work, love the xtreme sport footage which should be your niche, you seem to be good at filming in those conditions, (hillside, snow, etc...)
My reel is more fashion, cosmetic, new beauty product launch. although i film many other things, documentaries, mma fighting, and music videos. i would never add that content to the same reel i show my cosmetic clients. My ghost documentary wouldnt sell my services to the typical client of mine! can i add my reel here? i will accept any critiques and take them to heart as well.

The mountain bike stuff looks great! Def cut out the clutter, make this a snappier reel. Can't find fault with most of the critique. Honestly, the hiphop stuff needs to go or get cut down considerably. Some of it looks very video-ish, comparatively speaking.

The font choice was kinda bunk for the Sports Den spot but I love the way the text bounces with the ski tune.

The final shot? Jumping over the text? F-ing shradical!
