Haha! No way. I'm not that good! I still have lots to learn.
I don't know enough people in the industry either. I know some but they are barely acquintances.
I wish I knew some more people. It's so hard to make these contacts...or to show people in the industry my "ability".
Ah but that's my point Norm, the contacts are there, not here.
At least look at film schools. I've worked down south for years, your stuff (what i've seen of it) will interest them.
Have you contacted Atom [Egoyan], local boy makes good? We used to be waiters (long ago) trying to make enough money, him for his filming, me for equipment.
out of curiousity, what do you use for camera support? some scenes look as if they'd be hand held but they're smooth, others you had to have used a crane or dolly, i love it
nice reel Norm. the only thing i didnt like was the last shot...i feel like there must be better images in your archive to end this reel with. the down shot of the mom going "no no no" just doesnt complement the rest of your reel...anyway, just my 2cents...well done though...everything looks great.
Can you suggest something in the reel that would be a good ending in replacement? I know there's some good stuff but I'm not sure what's a good ending. The music is pretty fast and intense so it has match that somehow.
I just re-arranged some stuff and I think it's better now. I'm going to export and web-encode now and if you could take a look when you get a chance, that would be cool. Let me know what you think.
i would say, end it at 1:37...with the girl screaming into camera...and just cut the lady shot out all together...that would make the scream shot happen just as the music ends...i think that makes it more impactfull...
Wow Norm, these shots are great! When did you get a chance to do all those projects? I recall that you've been absent for a few months now, but I must say these are a tremendous improvement over your previous work. Are these all DVXs?
Hey thanks! It's different from the type of stuff I did before - general video productions for business. I did all the previous stuff before for some extra pocket money as well as to gain some experience to get into what I love most... shooting films!
Yeah, I've done most of those over the past few months actually. Two of the films are shot on DVX while the rest are shot on 16mm. (Arri SRII)

I think there some myths out there that you have to oh so good to be in LA. Or some how, if you're in LA you're work becomes better or whatever. The thing is that there are a lot of untalented people out there and you don't have to be at a certain level to move there. Go where the money and business is if you want to make a living using a camera.
We do 90% of our production in LA. That is always the first place I think to shoot and that is where almost all our production companies are.
yeah norm, superhott. i love it. makes me even more excited to start shooting film.
natob is probably right. there's plenty of mediocre talent in LA, and plenty of room in the industry for fresh eyes. some people complain about the culture and the city, but others love it. i'm thinking about moving down there myself sometime.
I have since shot 2 more shorts and added some clips from them to the reel if anyone is at all interested in viewing I re-arranged some stuff again too.
