I am thinking of getting the dell 2405 and just wanted to make sure if it would work with my G4 Apple Laptop. I have the AVI-DVI Adapter, Do I need any extra cards/adapters? When I playback the timeline in Final Cut Pro, would it play back on the Dell in realtime? Is this the best low budget edit monitoring solution out there?

Suggestion: go for the HP L2335 instead. I could go into tons of details, but in summary, the HP uses the SAME panel as the Apple Cinema displays, and even has slightly better color accuracy. And the price difference is pretty slim (in comparison to the Dell you are considering).

I have one and it's amazing. And due to the panel used (LG), the angle of view is VERY good (meaning great color accuracy as well). Here's a review:

As for the other questions: yes, the Powerbook would work fine. You wouldn't need any other cables assuming your Powerbook has a DVI input, and if it doesn't, just get the correct adapter to make it work.

Check prices at Newegg.com too, they are great to work with and have very good prices.
