Dell 2405 finally arrived today

I'd like to say thanks to all who had bought the Dell and recommended it to others. I'm so happy I got this... but friggin' already feel like I should have bought the 30 inch. More space...makes ya want more and more...

I picked up a storm case, 2975 off a local dealer for 175. It's a big case with plenty of room for all the acessories and such. I'll post some pics to my server when the site is up. I do also think this is not too heavy to lug around. It's just kind of intimidating initially. The stand is easy to put on and off... and everything looks really good when it's really clean well lit footage..and it shows the bad footage even more glaringly. However, upon further inspection most of the time it's because of the compression codec. I dont see it on the native HD footage.. just the web video and DVD HD stuff.

Thanks to Barry and all who pushed this as an inexpensive multi-purpose solution. I'll post again when I find a monitor c-stand adapter solution.

Mr Blonde, The 2975 isn't too deep. I like that I can have some hidden areas for storage. I plucked out the foam today and I was able to get the stand, all the connectors and a bunch of additional gear into the case and then securely put the monitor at the top. I think the 2975 is the minimum.. ceretainly for width. I wouldn't want it any tigher than what it is on the width.

I highly recommend the Storm over the Pelican. The locking mechanism is so friggin awesome. The pull handle and wheels too.. man, so class A. I don't think I'll miss busting the knuckes on the pelican case latches. These are the mercedes benz of plastic roadcases.

I'm looking forward to hooking it up to some HD cam soon. Any recommendations on the settings and cables for the hookup to the HVX or the other Sony, et all?

Hey there Justyn, the only difference between the iM2975 and iM2950 is that the 75 is 13.8 deep inside and the 50 is 10.5. Being that the HVX is 7" high, I wouldn't feel too comfortable having the camera bounce around in there too much.

The 10.5" depth is nice and tight. Then again all you have to do is pad it a bit with the 2975 and it's just as safe.

Dunno, just my way of seein it. :)

Ahhh blonde.. there's the difference. I put my monitor in the case and not the hVX. I'll have to check out the 50 for the HVX. They did also have a really sweet deep small case that I wanted to check out. I'll have to see what the model number is.

When you put the HVX in, are you putting it in verticle or laying it down? Keeping the microphone on?

use the componant out on the cam. A short cable comes with the cam and the monitor both. S-video or composite looks like shiet.

Yes I did discover that SD stuff doesn't look that great at all. I do plan on using the component. Just wondering if there's a difference in the cabeling and such... and on monitor calibration.. if there is anything that could possibly be done. Like, I know with the Marshall it has some blue gun biz that you can calibrate off.

Frankly though, I'm so friggin happy with the monitor and case. I just need to figure out the monitor stand contention to a C-stand. I want to be able to use it at a show that I have coming up and I need to have it elevated and out of oily fingertip reach.. It's more as a live streaming event.. so I wanted to advertise our location and I figured a hovering high flying 24" HD montitor would be pretty attractive.

I have a good hook up locally and he will ship around the US. He sells the 2975 which is big enough for the monitor, stand and all the gack you could imagine. I picked it up through him for 175. Send me a PM and I'll give you his contact info if you are interested.. It's so much nicer than a pelican.. and I can give you some hints on fitting everything inside... Took me a while to figure it out to maximize space.

Thanks

Ah I thought you had the case specifically for the HVX Justyn. I lay it on its side so that when stood up, the cam will be sitting level. Yup, mic on.

Yea these Storm cases rock the socks off the knuckle busting Pelicans.

I definitely need to pick up one of those monitors as well.

They are really sweet monitors. I had contemplated getting the 20" as it's more than enough for 720... but the 24" is just gorgeous. It'll also work in a pinch for field monitoring and such. Just trying to figure out a cheap C-stand option. I am finding things out.. but not a lot of options for a monitor over 20 lbs....
