I'm trying to decide on SD Cards that are suitable for recording 10bit 4K @400Mbps with my GH5, if you've used these V90 cards your comments will be welcomed.

I am in the same position and trying to decide. So far I have read about better results with the Delkin cards. For 10bit 4K @400Mbps I would not even consider anything less than a V90 card.

The two guys that run the CRFTSHO YouTube channel used Panasonic and Delkin V90 cards when they were shooting their GH5 6K Anamorphic short "Heirloom" for Panasonic. In their BTS commentary they mentioned that the Panasonic cards worked flawlessly, and that they had one hiccup with the Delkin cards but the Delkin cards worked perfectly after this.

On another DVX thread I bought an ADATA 256GB MicroSD card that benchmarks at 164 MB/sec write speed and has worked perfectly in my GH5 at 400 Mbps so far. This was the cheapest 256GB V90 card that I could find at $299 Canadian. ( $289 US at Amazon.com or NewEgg.com ) The full size SD version of this card is supposed to be even faster, but it's currently not available in Canada.

Why? Even Panasonic says V60 are fine. 400Mbps is only 50MB/s.

Also, it appears fast UHS-II cards generally work even if they don't have the V-class ratings.

I own a 128GB Delkin card and it works perfectly in 400Mbps mode with the GH5.

Same with the Sandisk 128 Extreme Pro 300, even though they are not specifically labeled V90

I have the Delken V90 and it's performing perfectly. In the updated manual Panasonic states V60 and V90 are required.

“Use a card rated at Video Speed Class 60 or higher to record C4K/4K ALL-Intra motion pictures (400 Mbps). Operation has been confirmed with a Panasonic card rated at Video Speed Class 90.”

Such a confusing statement. Ends with Panasonic V90 are confirmed. At $499 for a 128GB seems a little fishy.

Do you think their very pricy Panasonic V90 SD Cards may be one reason why they decided not to use the “Edit Friendly” 5 flavors of Pro Res as a GH5 record format?

That doesn't make any sense. ProRes has an even HIGHER bitrate unless you use ProRes LT.

ProRes 422 HQ in UHD is 880Mbps... that's 110MB/s and is higher than the V90 card spec.
ProRes 422 in UHD is 588Mbps... 73.5MB/s... this would require V90
ProRes 422 LT in UHD is 400Mbps... but the image quality is probably going to be lower than the ALL-I codec they're using.

More likely that ProRes just isn't a great acquisition codec... especially on cameras that use commodity storage like SD cards.

Looks like these guys have figured out how to do it in 1080HD.......Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features a built in SD card recorder that captures stunning ProRes 422 HQ and lossless compressed CinemaDNG files to fast SDXC cards. As an open format, it's compatible with most popular NLE software so you get a digital camera that's perfectly designed for post production workflows. When you’ve finished recording you can easily mount the card straight into a laptop, ready for editing. You can even color grade direct from the card with the included DaVinci Resolve! SD cards are commonly available and can be formatted for either HFS+ or exFAT, making them compatible with either Mac OS X or Windows.

Every GH5 400 Mbps test with V60 cards that I've come across has failed, with the GH5 stopping recording after less than 20 seconds. So I would be very cautious about buying V60 cards until they have a proven track record. ( yes in theory they are supposed to work, but in real-world tests they aren't holding up )

Yes the LEXAR SanDisk 280 MB/sec and 300 MB/sec ( 1800x and 2000x ) cards all appear to work with no problems. And some of the LEXAR 150 MB/sec ( 1000x ) cards work, but this varies on a batch by batch basis, so there is no guarantee that these cards will work.

Using the free ATTO Disk benchmark, it looks like any SD card that shows a UHS-II 90 MB/sec write speed on this benchmark will work in the GH5 at 400 Mbps.

The target data rate of Apple ProRes 422 HQ is only 220 Mbps for 1080p at 24p, & 30p. From my initial tests it appears the GH5 can record 1080p ALL-I 200Mbps to the same cards the BMPCC requires.
