Delivering on Blu ray

Hi everyone,

I'm shooting a wedding with my HPX 300 and my Canon 5DM2, I looking for a company that creates customized DVD covers and cases, I can create the DVD menu with FCP or with Encore, I need the covers designed so that the finished product doesn't look so plain.

I have Blu ray Discs that allow you to laser print an image onto them but I've never done that. I don't want to give them a blank case and DVD.

Are you guys doing the designs yourselves or are you subletting that portion of the work.

If I could find a company that would handle the mastering and the cover design, that would be even better.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Cheapest solution is to see if the photographer can give you some stills and do it yourself in Photoshop or other program. Even if you have someone else print your gonna save yourself a world of hurt and money over hiring a Pro Graphic Designer for 3-6 DVD boxcovers. I thought this post was about the cool extreme custom cases like tim cans or digi-pack.

I've been using "Diskmakers" for years. Granted, I am generally ordering 100 or more (DVD) but they are a full service shop, well thought of, and can handle any job no matter how small.

I am assuming you are talking about a paid gig so this should be an affordable solution.
Check them out/try this link: http://www.discmakers.com/selfservicequoter/default.aspx

For example, the cost of 2 Blu-ray discs complete with Blu-ray wrap around covers, full color printing on the disc, etc., would be $42 plus whatever your choice of shipping runs. They're absolutely the best on "short run" stuff.

I haven't checked in awhile but isn't the Disk Makers cost of 2 Blu-ray discs more like $2000. They charge the license fee per title and per disc for Blu-ray.

Wow! The prices are dropping fast.

FROM THE DISC MAKERS SITE:
Q: How much does Blu-ray cost to make?
A: Blu-ray utilizes the Advanced Access Content System (AACS). This system is designed to prevent illegal copying of DVDs and it’s inclusion is mandatory on all Blu-ray disks. As with Macrovision for SD DVDs, AACS has licensing and royalty fees. The client applies for an AACS Content Provider License with an annual fee of $500. Then there’s an AACS per title fee of $775, a $.05 per disc royalty, mastering fees, and other miscellaneous fees. These do not include the cost of authoring or replication.

With these fees your $42 Disc would be $1,317.10 for 2 discs. After the first run it would drop to $817.10 for 2 discs.

I did event work for 12 years. If you have Photoshop CS3 or earlier, check out PixelPops software. Lance Gray has a nice program to print inserts that look great.

I use a Pirimera Bravo II to burn and print the disks for DVD's and a Blu-Ray burner for that format. You could do the disk label with other printers.

For small print runs, this would make more financial sense than most vendors who provide the service equal or better to do this.
