delighted with my GH1!!!

Having used many video cameras in the past: Sony VX2000, V1U, Z1, Panasonic HVX200, Nikon D90, I am amazed with the quality I am getting out of my GH1. Panasonic seems to have hit it out of the park again.

I am just stunned by the picture quality and how well this camera performs in low light. The sound quality is fantastic too.

So far I haven't come across any issues or any drawbacks of any kind.

I know things will only keep getting better. Still waiting for Scarlet, but in the meantime, the GH1 will more than meet my needs.

Will be posting some footage shortly.

Planning on getting the Nikon to Panasonic lens adapter first as I have a number of nikon lenses.

The same here. Does everything my HVX200 and better. The image quality in all the settings is great. No problem whatsoever with 1080p. The only drawback is that when I used it recently for an event people posed for the picture! They all thought I was taking pictures. LOL. Panasonic, yes, you have a home run with the bases loaded!

Im absolutely amazed by a a few things on this cam as well. Somehow the LCD seems to show exposure SPOT ON! Whenever I return home after a shoot and take my clips to my NLE I'm really amazed by the fact that what I saw on the LCD is what Im seeing on my computer monitor in full size 720 as well.

I've had one for a week and its killing me. I love it so friggin much. I can't put the bastard down.

Okay, I must have not set the right configuration for LCD display on my GH1. LCD always shows brighter image than actual image (especially still images) and I constantly have to check histogram to measure the right brightness on LCD. There seems to be brightness compensation on LCD display. Is there a setting I need to alter to fix this?

Hey guys, please take a look at these stills. I will soon be posting the footage but haven't yet had time to edit a quick movie. All clips were shot in 1080/24p. All shot by natural light:

http://gallery.me.com/nicholasnatteau#100244

Still 1: me
Still 2: Looking out of my apartment at night.
Still 3: My bathroom. Believe it or not the modest amount of ambient light is actually coming from the TV in the next room!
Still 4: Taken from inside my bathroom at night, looking out. The light you see in the upper left hand corner comes from a nearby stadium.
Still 5: My wife on the computer.

I should also mention that I just started using the camera. So all settings were automatic. I have yet to start experimenting with the creative movie mode. Also, the original clips look better than how you see them in the gallery.

Now get this: ALL these clips were shot with the stock lens that came with the GH1!

I can't wait to get that lens adapter and try my Nikon 50mm 1.4 lens at night.

Just another thought regarding the GH1.

A while back I sold my HVX200 planning to upgrade to the HPX170. Then I bought the Nikon D90. But the d-movie mode was too problematic for me. So I sold the D90, waited, kept reading these boards, hoping for something better.

While I had the HVX200 I got some great footage out of the camera and had purchased the Redrock Micro. It gave me beautiful bokeh shots, but Redrock+HVX200 was quite cumbersome and heavy to lug around. I'm a documentary film maker and much of my work is now run and gun.

I had been hoping that Scarlet would be out this year, but now working with the GH1, it delivers everything I was hoping for and more.

You might want to try this for previewing your shots.
1. Press the trashcan/delete button. What will happen is you'll see the words "shutter effect on"
2. THEN press the "display button" This will give you a preview of your exposure before you actually snap the picture. Very useful especially with low light stuff.

I know this doesn't quite answer your LCD question (answer can be found in the manual - I know its thick as shiznit but hey, tons of secrets in there.) Anyway, if you knew this already sorry for wasting your time. If not, check it out. I'm sure you'll find it very useful.

Yes, that is indeed very useful. Panasonic should have just added that as a LCD mode option, IMHO. Good thing is in creative movie mode we can totally rely on LCD screen for what you see is what you get. Thanks.

Without further hijacking the thread, I am too very delighted with my GH1. My rod support will come soon and I already received my follow focus and gears. I cannot wait to put them all together.
