Deleted my sequence

Hopefully this is an easy fix... I stupidly erased my avid sequence before I had compressed into all the proper files. I have a DVD of the sequence, however, I did not compress the file into a quicktime file for my website. Is there a way to get the edited footage on the DVD back into Avid so that I can compress it into the proper file type???

hmm.. you can try this:

There is something called ATTIC under the avid directory in program files. Open to where your project folder is and there should be a couple of bins from the past that's backuped. what you need to do is take the most recent bin, copy it, or move it over out of that folder in order to open it. You then goto avid and open that file manually.. try it,.. hopefully it's there..

Thanks for the input, however, the source media files had been deleted a ways back. Is there anything I can do w/ the DVD?

Rip the files off of the DVD and then convert the MPEG-2 to Quicktime and import it into Avid. You will not have any of your original edits, and you will suffer quite a bit of quality loss due to the MPEG-2 compression. For help on this process do some reading at www.doom9.org

The only other thing is that if the sequence is still in your Attic, then you can batch capture the clips back onto your computer and go from there.

when you delete something from your HD, the operating system doesnt actually remove the file straight away, instead it just removes the path to the file. This means that the file is still there until the operating system decides it wants to use that part of the HD. There are file revovery programes that can recover "deleted" files, however you want to do this process ASAP because every minuite that your pc is on, the less likely a recovory will be. If this happened a while ago this may not be possible, or even parts of it may be there still whilst other are not, which im guessing isnt useful.

First, if you do in fact have the sequence, it's very easy to batch capture/import, as was suggested earlier, we do this on a regular basis at work. But, re-reading your post I think the easiest thing for you to do is if your DVD is a Video DVD not Data All you need to do is capture from your DVD, i.e. if you have analog in's, just plug a set top DVD player in and start capturing otherwise plug a DVD player into your camera and dub to Mini-DV and capture it from there. It wont be the same quality as if you had been using the original since it has gone through Mpeg 2 compression but if this is just for the web I think you'd be ok.

Thanks for your posts guys. I recpatured through my DVD player and it looks OK, good enough for what I have to do.
