Delete P2 clips with FCP 5.1.2?

Hi all,

The new P2 import feature in FCP 5.1.2 is wonderful and does almost everything I want it to. The one thing it's missing - I think - is the ability to delete clips. Once I've transferred the contents of a P2 card to my hard drive, I'll often delete clips that I don't want before I back up file original MXF files. I currently use P2 Log and it has a delete feature.

Is there a way to do this in FCP's P2 import window? I can't find it. If there's not, is it ok to just go into the contents\video folder and delete the clip I don't need? I'm not sure if that will mess up the data structure of the copied folder.

thanks,
Fh

Just found it, just right (or control) click the clip in hierarchical view mode and select delete from the pop up menu. This doesn't show up in list view for some reason.

Just use the delete key. It's a bit alarming when you realise you've deleted the master from the P2 card, rather than from the list. I thankfully backed up.

I've started taking off write permissions for P2 cards once I've transferred them.

Oh... I knew about Delete key or contextual menus. I read the original question as asking whether FCP could delete the media from the P2 card (i.e. reformat the P2 card within FCP). Duh... me dumb...

Great! That's just what I'm looking for. I'm not deleting the files from the cards. In fact, I can't: I use a P2 Drive (Drive, not Store, which is more common) and that doesn't work on the Macintosh unless the cards are locked before being inserted into the Drive's slots.

thanks,

Never a good idea to remove anything from a P2 volume without using a software application... the XML data accompanying each clip in P2 format are intertwined.

I tried to remove the clips in the P2 Import window before ejecting the card and when I insert in the camera it works fine, it didn't ask me for format it.
