(This isn't really related to the DVX specifically)

I was talking to my friend the other day who just returned from a "film camp" (we are both high school students) where he made a documentary. I asked him what camera they used, but he didn't remember the model, so I asked him what they shot it on. He said DV. Thinking, "No crap," I asked him again what they shot it on. He said DV again. I replied by asking if they used miniDV, DVCAM, DVCPRO, etc. He said that they used DVCAM, but that "that was the same thing as DV." He told me that "on a real set" DVCAM is called simply "DV" and that miniDV, DVCPRO, etc would be called by their specific names. I had never heard of this before, and began to question the camp, but he insisted that this was the truth. Has anyone heard of this terminology before, as I certainly haven't. Isn't DV just "Digital Video"/ a codec or am I missing something?

Also, in the "real world" FILM shooters refer to video as either Betacam, DV, or HD, irregardless of what kind of DV it is. DV generally refers to DV25, which does include miniDV, DVCAM, DVCPro-25.

DV is generally a pejorative in the FILM industry.
