Hi guys,

Here is a doc I filmed for The Constitution Project in Jan/Feb and was just released. All of the footage aside from the b&w archival was shot on the F3 and a Samurai in ProRes 422 10 bit. A custom Cine 4 gamma profile was used for nearly every shot, two of the interviews were in S-Log though. We didnt do S-Log for the whole film because the turn around to release was insanely short (4 weeks). The producer's did give it some love though as it was finished and color graded at Modulus Studios in Boston. As the DP Im very happy with how the footage was treated. Except for one single shot! Haha..

Lenses used:
Nikon 24-70 2.8 -all interviews
Nikon 17-55 2.8
Nikon 80-200 2.8
Tokina 11-16 2.8

*On a side note, I've just recently purchased a F5 and great new features aside, the F3 with a ext. recorder is still a great camera compared to anything out there in my opinion. Maybe I wont sell it.

Wow... went for the images stayed for the story. That was really something. I thought the interviews were really shot well, especially Eddie's sister, such an warm and intimate frame and perfectly sensitive eye line for such an intimate interview. Beautiful. I thought the Mondale frame was spectacular with all those cross points behind, also the color contrast on the judge with that red wood wall. I noticed some moire on the blue shirt for Rapping... that must have been one tight pattern. The high whites in the courtroom were lovely as were some of the candid tight shots in there. I also thought the watercolors were beautiful. Internal or was that the Samurai?

Really nice. Thanks for sharing that

Thanks!, really appreciate the nice words. That damn blue synthetic shirt had me cursing!, I even tried defocusing a little to lessen it. Honestly in the year i've owned the F3 after 100+ interviews, that is the very first time I've seen the cam moire and I always have the sharpening off. The very short interview on the porch had some crazy magenta tint going on in the shadows. No idea what happened there..

Yes all the footage was to the Samurai. Funny you mention the Mondale shot, the whole time I was saying to myself "Just dont move a inch and this will work!". The judge interview was one of my favorites as well. I have to give a huge thanks to my Director/Producer who made it clear in advance that we needed 90 mins of set up time for the interviews, usually only took 45 but having that extra buffer was fantastic. The artist that did the watercolors killed it!, I didnt see them until the piece went live, looked great.

Thanks again.

Same as HScully, I quickly forgot why I was watching and got sucked into the story. In addition to your superb work, the writer did a wonderful job. Would it be possible for you to give me a ballpark figure of what the budget is -- you don't need to be specific, I'm just curious as to what a production of this caliber costs.
