DEFAULT frame rate vs actual on HVX200A

It looks like this topic has been discussed in detail but I couldn't find an answer searching the long threads....sorry in advance if I missed it.

Does the DEFAULT setting for frame rate equal the exact same actual rate selected by the recording format? In other words, if I select 720p24PN and use DEFAULT is it the same thing as using 720p24PN with frame rate set to 24FPS? Likewise, if shooting 720p30P with DEFAULT, would that be identical to shooting 720p30P with frame rate set to 30FPS?

Yes.

But understand that the DEFAULT setting changes the frame rate when you change your recording format (i.e., it'll be 24fps when set to 720/24pN, and then if you change to 30pN the DEFAULT frame rate will now be 30).

If you manually set it to 24, and then you change your recording format to 720/30pN, your shooting frame rate will still be 24. And that means all your footage will be recorded without sound, and 20% fast-motion.

So just be careful when you go changing that frame rate away from DEFAULT, and understand the difference so you don't get any nasty surprises.

Thank you, Barry for the prompt and detailed reply. I was testing some variable frame rates last night and viewing the results on an external monitor. With all other scene file settings the same it seemed that I was getting a slightly brighter image when leaving the frame rate at DEFAULT versus selecting the manual rate to match the recording format. I'm sure it must have just been my imagination....I just wanted to be sure there was no difference. Thanks again!
