"Deckless" Firewire DVCPROHD Deck?

So as I understand it, pass through monitoring of HD from FCP back to the HVX and then to an HDTV doesn't work correct? I'm just thinking, why don't they make a firewire device just for this purpose?

I shoot a lot on DV and then go staight to DVD and hardly ever record back to DV. I mostly use my DV deck for monitoring while I edit. It would be great to have a DVCPROHD capable device with various inputs and outputs with a firewire I/O to the computer. Bascially a DVCPROHD deck without an actual deck in it. It's the HD heads that make them so expensive right? I think such a device could easily be set at under a grand.

Or does such a thing actually exist?

Thoughts?

No one has created a firewire DVCPRO HD converter Box yet.

One company to watch this NAB is Canopus:

1. They have a long track record, creating low price-high quality firewire DV converters.
2. They have a working software DVCPRO HD codec in their NLE.
3. They have a HD-SDI to component converter.

So they have all the components to do this and they have the FPGA programmers...

The BlackMagic Decklink cards will allow you to play DVCPro HD out via SDI, HD-SDI, Component & Composite - unfortunately not FireWire.
