As a DVX100b owner doing community TV production, I'm looking for ways to speed up my work flow process and wherever possible improve visual quality.
I currently use a Mac G4 and Final Cut Express but will be moving shortly to the MAC PRO and the Final Cut Studio Suite.
My capture device is the Panasonic AV2500 deck.
The question is this: Is there any advantage to adding a Blackmagic Deck Link card and are they worth the money?
I have reviewed their website product and work flow sections, but I'm not up to speed enough to really grasp what they do well. Obviously they control the deck on capture, but FCE seems to do a good job at that already, will a deck link card take less time or improve quality? Certain cards have the ability to take various inputs and convert them to other types of outputs, none of which I seem to be involved with at this time.
They seem to make a big deal out of uncompressed signal and output with supposedly higher quality output. Will that really be noticable on DVD which is where all my output winds up at? Is there any improvement in rendering time?
As far as I can tell, there is only one model, the multibridge, that can convert SD into HD files which might be a nice feature to have in the future, but once again I don't have any need for it right now.
Can any one give me a users opinion on any of this?
Ken
PS - the Blackmagic web site does not have a "contact" email to ask these questions on that I can see.
