Deck Camera Error

I've been using a cheap 1-chip camera as an output to my television screen. Suddenly, the camera starts putting these flashing grey-blocky-boxes on everything that I send out. I can no longer go from final cut to this camera without getting these annoying flashing boxes. Has anyone encountered this before, or have any idea what it means?

Clean the heads.

I don't think that is the heads, I think it's the cable or the firewire port itself. I have had this happen to me on occassion and I have restarted and it was ok, but I remember the having to replace 4 to 6 pin cable because of this too.
