In need of a mic for indoor speech. It will be on a boom pole, going into a preamp and then into the line-in on a dr40.
I have a ntg-2 which is working great for outdoors and ok for indoors but realize there are much better options for indoors.
I have a couple of the U837r mics in my live stage kit, and I have taken them out on shoots before. Great mic for the money. Like many hypercardioids it does need wind protection (the foam cover that comes with it does nothing around the bottom edge), and I'd recommend getting the Rycote INV-6 suspension mount and Baby Ball Gag wind protection. But it really does perform well.
I have the 4053a (slightly older than the b version) and it is a great indoor mic. It has all the great sound of the Oktava without the excessive sensitivity to handling and wind noise. If you have an experienced boom guy and an expensive boom pole and shock mount, by all means go with the Oktava and save a few bucks- it's an incredible mic.
