Deceased battery

Anyone know if there's anything I can do with a dead battery that won't power the camera nor take a charge anymore? It's one of those Panasonic CGA-D54 batteries that comes standard with the camera.

If I put it in the camera, I get nothing. If I put it in the charger, the charge light comes on briefly, then goes off. Leaving it overnight does nothing. Charger is the DE-A20 that comes with the camera - no 'refresh' button or anything.

Wondering if it can be repaired, warrantee'd, or if I should just recycle it?

Got the battery in 2006. One died within the first year. This one has help up well until now. They are all Panasonic brand.

They have a limited lifespan dependent upon total number of charge/discharge/recharge cycles.

When they stop taking a charge, they're done. It'd probably cost more to get these kinds of batteries re celled than it would cost to just buy new ones.

I always buy the cheapo batteries on eBay which (with a few exceptions) always worked fine and have a normal lifespan.

Hello tbob,

The Panasonic batteries fall under the accessories warranty at Panasonic which 7-10 days. So if it's older then that, there isn't a warranty.

You'll be getting a PM from me with another solution.

THe $20-$30 Ebay batteries have worked just as well for me as the Panasonics (although they may only go 2 1/2 hours when the Panasonic will go three). All the batteries (3 Ebay and one original Panny) are still going fairly strong after 3 years.

Sorry, but there is no repair option available. Li-Ion batteries do not benefit from cycling or any other tricks :-(

Ditto on the cheapie ebay batteries. I've got half a dozen and they're just as good as the OEM ones aside from some slight loose-fit issues on my VidLed (remember them?), which I solved with a layer of gaff tape on the bottom.
