Dear Panasonic / Nothing new at Photokina?

Dear Panasonic,

Really, keep the form factor and even the same lens. Could we get a DVX200b with a GH5S sensor please?

Rumors - I know, worth what we paid for them - say nothing big is likely from Panasonic at Photokina :(

Panasonic's color science is often said to be superior to that from Sony (but Sony may be taking steps?), and Panasonic's cadence, too. There are so many things right with the DVX ... just the low light I see as a critical issue. An updated DVX200 would be superior to anything out there with a fixed lens.

For raw specs, the BM Pocket Cinema Camera sure sounds nice. But I want the manual controls, the color science & expertise and a lens like that found on the DVX with a GH5S sensor. But that doesn't seem to be an option, and there's no way to know if such a thing is in the pipeline. If anyone else has heard something, please post it here.

I think a lot would respond to this camera upgrade, but it would be best if the overall size of the camera was reduced. The DVX200 was sort of an experiment. A new path which we do not know if Panasonic wants to follow down. But the camera is a bit too large and a bit too slow imho. Adding the GH5s sensor is a great fix for half of the equation. Now, a faster lens and smaller overall size would make a winner.

Will they follow through? I thought they would but maybe it just takes longer than expected.

Remember, Photokina is a photo show. So I would not expect a video camera release targeted at the show. They could bring a camera out just whenever though.

there's IBC 2018 in Amsterdam a couple of weeks prior to Photokina in early September, which is a good platform for new camcorders. After all it is a broadcast oriented show if nothing else. Sony announced the FS7 there back in 2014 and the FS5 in 2015. I have not heard about anything new from Panasonic though, however if a new camcorder is about to be announced, I won't be surprised if they do it at IBC.

A little smaller - but with all the same capabilities - and even a faster lens - would be great. But from all the praise I've read on here about the DVX200 when there is adequate light, I think we can say the DVX200 has a WHOLE LOT that is right with it. Using the GH5S multi-aspect sensor but with IBIS like the DVX200 would be amazing.

Curiously, Panasonic (and rather a lot of reviewers) conspicuously omit mention of the DVX200 when talking about Panasonic's line of cameras, as though it doesn't exist. I don't really understand.

I'd still like a proper replacement for the AF100.

But anything that threatens EVA1 sales is probably a non-starter. So a full-featured, even MFT-based camcorder with a removable lens is presumably Not going to happen, as nice as that would be. But with a fixed lens ...

Of course. I'll whack myself in the head now. OK, now I can obsess over another potential introduction date ... thanks!

Ah voodoo science! :)

I've read this multiple times, from apparently rather experienced folks. It seems to be a thing. Maybe not an established or well-defined thing but ... color science and "cadence" have been two down-checks pointed out re: Sony cameras. And, BM and Panasonic color science are said to be good. Any thoughts on the latter, even if the former is voodoo science?

I'm surprised you're not mentioning Canon's color science.

Usually the majority over the years have favored it vs. Panasonic, Sony and even BM (which many still haven't used).
