GH4 Dealing with the glitchy timecode

OK... so it's a pain that I basically can't sync timecode with the GH4 and anything else. The only work-around I've taken time to figure so far is to live with the random TC delays and fine-tune the "rough sync" in post. This is sub-optimal for multitudinous reasons of obviousity.

Anyway, I'd like to hear from others using the GH4 in situations where syncing with anything else... recorder, sound, other cameras, etc... and how you deal with it.

I['m still on the GH2, which doesn't record timecode, so this issue is par for the course. I typically sync everything manually. Works every time.

VideoMic pro on GH4, double-system sound, and Pluraleyes in post. Occasionally one Sennheiser lav on talent, dual receivers (one on the GH4 and one in the sound bag).

Timecode without jam sync makes as much sense as solo syncronized swimming.

I'm thinking more of a long multi-crew doc shoot, where sound and cameras may split off occasionally and then come back together for, say, a quick 2-cam interview or somesuch... even multiple AF100's/HMC's on free run keep in time through a day, was hoping to bring GH4 rigs into play in those situations. I've done the all-manual and pluraleyes thing in that situation before, not always the world's biggest treat, and maybe there were tools I wasn't aware of to help cope. I guess the only one is that old thing called a "slate."

Just got back from a week long gig & about to head out of the country on another, so haven't updated my GH4(s) yet out of fear of inducing an issue, but wonder if the frame numbering glitch is still an problem too.

These two issues drive Editors nuts, & add up to a lot of extra work, especially as most my shoots are multicam.

@mcbob - I'm sure you know even on a feature with lokit boxes and multiple cameras, they still use a slate. I think it's just part of the whole multi camera discipline you get used to doing. My sound recordist friend built me a small box with a button on it that triggers three red led's and a burst of 1k tone - much smaller than a clapper board and great for syncing dslrs. Just slips in a pocket...

Nagra used to offer a Bloop Box with similar functionality & there's some company out there now that builds one which attaches to most recorders. Additionally there's an iOS app called BloopBox that I sometimes use.

I'm wondering if I buy a YAGH and jam sync with my SD 633 if it will work nicely or if it will still drift and be kind of sucky?
