FS5: Dead

No new posts or new news on the FS5.

Curious: was this camera a major letdown for buyers?

Or are we all waiting on a Sony response?

Sony : My GH4 4K 420 100mbps is insane.

FS5 owners are likely far too busy out shooting and enjoying their cameras than sat at the computer petting it.

How did you know! Must have left the webcam on!!!

It's a terrific camera with a few (annoying) short falls...but I've never owned a cam that is not perfect (which is why i currently have 3, different tools for different jobs).

It leaves my C100 for dust but if anyone was expecting a 4K broadcast compliant F55 like cam for £4.5K forget it! If you were expecting a FS7 then consider again too. However, if you want a small, highly ergonomic and (mostly) highly flexible s35 cam then rent one or visit a dealer to try it out. We all want/need different things so no one cam is perfect for everyone, before you even factor in price.

If you were expecting a C100/C100MkII killer then the FS5 is going to (already is?) giving Canon a very hard time (hence I suspect their recent cut price promotions on these models).

All that said, yes I am waiting to see what Sony's official response is to all the web negativity that has occurred regarding the faults that have been demonstrated. Meantime, I'll just use my cam (I only deliver in HD at the moment) and enjoy the capabilities it brings/make money.

EDIT: If you want to know more about what I think/why I bought the FS5 I have much more detailed info on this link here:

Mine's been cooking away all morning at a conference. It's a good camera. It's not a leap and a bound above the C100mk2, and the interface and controls have a bit of a leaning curve, but overall it's pretty nice. It has a number of odd software choices, like no AF lock on the grip buttons, and the internal LCD shuts off when externally monitoring, but it's still pretty usable. I feel like I pretty much traded usability and low light for resolution and some tricks like the vari ND. A pretty even trade.

I had it cranked up to 20,000 last night and it looked pretty decent. The image degradation noted elsewhere on the forums is present, but not distracting with normal run and gun use. I really like the slow motion. It's fun.

The 18-105mm is challenging for focus, but SO convenient. The power zoom is pretty nice for live events like I'm doing today.

Im shooting right now with the Cine4 Gamma and the S-Gamut3.cine color matrix. Is that weird? Yeah, but I think it's looks kinda good in this particular case :)

I stopped bothering to post here, every fs5 post turned into the same group of people (who do not even own the fs5) crying about the same **** over and over... figure in a few months I will start if I have a question but for now its just not worth it.

Yes, us owners are busy using it, learning it, getting better with it, figuring it all out. I will post some findings soon if I have time. Interestingly, most of the negativity has focused on the 4k side, yet I am finding "bugs" or issues that manifest in 1080p but not in 4k, like ugly fringing on edges between bright and dark areas. These really ONLY show up on S-LOG settings and not on the other gammas. And only in 1080p, not in 4k. This occurs both internally and externally to a Shogun.
