Dead Pixel

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here...I've been lurking for awhile as I researched which camera to purchase. After a long research period, I settled on the DVX. And based on info in this forum, I purchased a b-stock unit from Specialized Communications with 9 hours on the head and a 90 day factory warranty, which I upgraded to two year Mack warranty through B&H (didn't know you could do that until I spoke with Specialized). :)

Anyway, I got it today and everything looks great...except that I have a dead pixel on my LCD screen. :( Does anyone know if this is covered by warranty, or does it fall under what is talked about in page 8 of the manual - something about .01% of pixels not working?

Lastly, I've read about people having insurance on the DVX for something like $10-$20 per month...can you recommend where to get this type of insurance?

Thanks,

Ben Swenson

Re: Dead Pixel

I don't think your homeowners policy will cover the loss/damage/theft of your camera if you are using it to make a living. You will need a seperate policy to cover it.
I'm good friends with my insurance guy who works for Farmers Ins. They couldn't write a policy for my video gear. They told him it was considered "high-risk" electronics and I would need a special policy that Farmers does not write. I did a little research and fould these guys - http://www.safeware.com/index.php
They mainly write policys for computers but I contacted them and got a quote to cover $10k worth of my equipment - DVX100a, tripod, mic, Canon 20D and lenses and my laptop.
Quote for $200/year.
Worth every penny when you hear the horror stories of peoples gear getting ripped off.

reminds me... need to get that paperwork filed..........
