Dead pixel on 170

I had this problem on my canon xh-a1 and this is how i fixed it. It's going to sound retarded but I think it was a bit of dirt on the sensor so it worked.

Hold your camera with the lens facing away from you and spin around..... the force of the spin seemed to move the dust on my sensor. Beats sending it to the repair shop. That fixed it three times for me. 170 could be whole diff. ballgame but who knows.

Here it is. It is more visible in highlights./ The burned pixel looks red????

I'm not positive but judging by the shape of the red glitch that you've indicated it doesn't look like a dead pixel per se. I thought that they usually appeared as more rectangular in shape???

Agreed this seems like some sensor anomally that I have not seen before. Any ideas?

Ive seen a few dead pixels on LCD's (never the hmc though) and they are usually neon green and square. To me it looks like dust in the sensor or lens.

You try that spinny thing?

Someone once told me that the name "dead pixel" is a total misnomer. A single dead pixel would either be invisible to the bare eye or barely visible. What you have there is probably more like a clump of dead pixels in order to be so visible.

Yes, I would send it in for service. Problem is that a lot of manufacturers have "acceptable limits" for the amount of dead pixels on an image sensor or even an LCD monitor. What may be termed "acceptable" to them because of manufactureing yields and tolerances might be totally unacceptable to you.

I know a lot of the 5D MKIIs have dead pixels, I haven't really checked mine yet for that specifically.

Good luck!

Dan
