DVX100A says it will take DC7.9V if I want to go battery-free.

If I plug DC9V will it break my DVX100a?

It is designed to accept up to 8.4V. 9V would stress the internal components, possibly causing to fail after extended use. How do you know you actually have exactly 9V? If you are looking at the 9V label, it means ~9V, but can be more or less.

Well, it's a Radio Shack thing, which switches from 3 to 4.5 to 6 to 7.5 to 9 to 12V

I don't think if I put the switcher between 7.5 and 9 it goes to ~8.

Also it doesn't power up the camera, when stopped at 7.5.

Thanks for all the replies, guys!

Yep, what I thought. It probably drops to 6V at 7.5V set point, and to 7.5V at 9v set point. The battery level icon in the viewfinder is not full, is it?

If I set it at 9v and connect to the camera, the battery level icon is full, if I switch it to 7.5v the camera just shuts off...

I didn't try to switch it to 12v to see, if the camera takes obviously excessive voltage, because I see the risks of damaging something.

If it is full, it means ~8V or more. You are taking your chances. Especially getting something from Radio Shack for $19.95
