David Lynch on "product placement"

As long as product placement does't make/change an artistic descions in a film, I don't see were it really matters, matter of fact I'd be all for it.
Once a scene is put in just for product placement or a shot is changed only for product placement is when I think it's wrong.

hey you know, what though..... if Wendy's descided to give me an additional 30,000$ on top of a 150,000$ budget, i would throw them in..... it helps get the film made. Whats the problem? sure its kinda crap, but if it gets your film made, whatever....

I think it just depends on one's tolerance for product integration. generally speaking, I can imagine there are filmmakers who deify every aspect of mainstream studio filmmaking, and so the opportunity for placement is welcomed on two levels. and on the other end of the spectrum, there are those who intend to be the next john cassavetes or david lynch. and they'll be much less inclined to impose any appearance of blatant commercialism onto the creative work itself, prefering that it remain outside the actual film and strictly within the administrative/financing/marketing of it.

but as with all things, most of us are in the middle somewhere, unsure where to draw the line exactly.
