David Lynch on "product placement"

Oh okay
:)
Thought maybe he'd said something about it specifically in an interview or something.
Yeah - well - what do you expect when you get Speilberg and Michael Bay together?
That's a Voltron of Product Placement right there...

lol

yeah 90% of transformers was product placement - the transformers themselves, the apple computers, cisco network phones, nokia cell phones, etc

the problem, though, is that companies put so much branding on every product that they make that it's impossible to make a film with props that doesn't use product placement. your character drinks a soda? product placement! gets in their car? product placement! takes a dump? well, I don't think toilets have gotten that bad yet.

Haha. Awesome. I'm just waiting for reverse product placement where Ford pays a producer to make sure the bad guys drive Chevys. And I wouldn't be surprised if this is already happening.

Eh, it's not that big a deal.
People have been doing subtle product placement throughout the history of film.

Or have you all forgotten about the original cut of Citizen Kane?

Yeah - doesn't it just make your skin crawl?

What's funny (or not so funny) is that we wouldn't think twice about seeing a character today walk out of a Walmart in a movie.

LOL

On another spin; look around our neighborhoods and offices. If we were shooting scenes in real life; it'd be Dell, AT & T, Panasonic and a McDonalds cup all in plain view

Live Free or Die Hard. All the villians use PCs. And only the Mac Guy can save us...

insidious...

How so? Films have art departments. Just tear the label off the soda your actors drink & so on. Product placement isn't so much about having your actor drinking a soda. Its about cutting to the closeup and having him say "Damn I love sprite!"

Watch SWAT.

Prop departments have to clear all the brand names and book titles they use anyway. Its not hard to turn the bottles around so you can't read it.

The Matrix: A non-descript every world, every town. Very cool.

The Matrix Reloaded: Agent Smith appears driving an Audi - Ground breaking car chase features Cadillacs & Chevys. And GM is still tanking. Hello GM, just make a good car please! Amazing car chase scene though...
