date and time stamp

Hey,

A brief search of these forums yielded no answer to what I assume is a pretty noobish question: How can i get my date/time stamp to show up in my footage? Is it possible? I am doing some legal work and need an answer to this question pretty quickly.

so i'm gathering that you can only get that data in FCP if you feed it out via analog or s-video or component, and capture it rather than just getting it through the standard log and transfer process?

good to know! i can get "military time" to feed out of the camera via component or analog, so that will just have to do--i was planning on just handing the files over to the client after the shoot, but I guess I will have to give them a dvd later.

You can let them know that the files are encoded with date and time metadata.... and you'd be happy to "burn" that data onto the video for a fee. :)

i dont think the hvx has the legal/time stamp option, but the new hmc150 does and maybe the hpx170 too?

Yes, the HPX170 will have a time/date stamp option. I think in the HPX170 first look article Barry wrote he specifically mentioned using this for legal work, which opened up a new line of use for Panasonic, so I would infer from this that the HVX200 does not have this capability natively.

The 200 can't, but on the 170 there are two things you need to do. You go into the recording setup and turn "time stamp" to "on", and then you go into the display setup and make sure that the time and/or date is being displayed in the viewfinder. With those two settings set, you should see a little "r" next to the date, implying that the date will be "r"ecorded into the video.
