I'm starting to look around at on set data wrangling and dalies, and it'd be great to hear from those who are already into it. First of all what sofware are people using, then hardware??

Thanks Nate, but I was looking for something I can afford! .......... Any other suggestions? Macbook Pro + ?

Nice Looking Cart though

I was kidding. It's true that was on my last job, but that was for the 3 Alexas shooting Arriraw.

It's all over the place as to what DIT/loaders use in my experience. But yeah, most common is a newer MBP with whatever thunderbolt accessories they can use to speed things up. I've seen the Sonnet Echo a couple times.

I've seen Shotput, R3D Data Manager...I tend to use just the Finder and check file sizes down to the byte to confirm, but I can't recommend that.

My plans are to stick with my NAS with USB3 which yield pretty good transfer rates. If you'd rather use Thunderbolt and get double the speed (using dual channel) you can look into something like the Lacie 5Big Thunderbolt NAS.

i'm frequently surprised by how many people drag and drop.

i'm a fan of Shotput, very versatile and will read and write from/to multiple sources/drives.

Has anybody used the new usb 3.0 memory sticks to offload ?

Would be ideal to give to a client instead of a dump to harddisk.

Most USB 3 memory sticks don't transfer at the full speed of USB 3 spec, some brands far less, but indeed it is not a bad idea for smaller bitrate encoded footage.

Kingston announced 1TB in January for $1800 with a transfer speed between 180 - 260MB/s. Lite codecs would fly, but Sony 4k RAW for example would transfer 1-2 times faster then actual footage in minutes you have.

+1 Shotput

Bypasses finder for faster copy and performs more error checking. Can also send to multiple destinations.
