Hello Everyone!

I finished my first short film with the DVX100. I just wanted to see what you guys thought of it. Keep in mind that there was not really a budget and everything was guerrilla still shooting ( DIY equipment )

I just want to let you know , this wasn't the final color corrected film, but it took way to long to put on vimeo , so I didn't bother to upload the final one.

Besides that, I had a lot of fun making this project and i'm still learning a whole lot, so i'll take any advice that comes through.

From a Cinematography persepctive I think you did a great job. The editing was also well done and the overall direction was good. I didn't have a majro problem with production, so you should pat yourself on the back. The lighting was kinda low, but I dug the mysteriousness that illumiated from it.

My only issue was the story which i didn't get. But that's just my .02, but I know if I were shooting tomorrow and you're in my area I'd want to give you a call. The talent is in you, you just need to find some scripts that tell a more "user-friendly" type of story.

I enjoyed that. I thought it was shot nicely.

My criticisms are that it took half of the movie for him to get to the panic attack. I personally would've done his morning preparations into a much tighter collage edit.

Agreed. I thought the morning scene was far too long. I loved all the camera work though. Very interesting look and perspective.

Well done.

Mike

cinematography and ideas are good. 2 problems I noticed... You started the movie off with him wakeing up which has been done about 6000 times and you should be carefull with product placement like the audi poster. Other then that good job.

I second the waking up. As well as the fridge scene. While they are unique perspectives, they are really corny and can take away from an otherwise good movie. As well, the rack focus on the stairs wasn't my favorite.

I thought you did a really good job with the rest of the shots. The story was plausibly understandable, but unless its a straight-up art film, you shouldn't really have to explain it for people to understand it.

Good job tho! Hopefully the final cut looked even better.

Very good! (would have made a nice TimeFest entry) I liked the edit, but as mentioned above, looked a little dark in spots. Good job with the anamorphic, those things are hard to deal with. (I've been fighting with mine...and it's winning!)

Can't wait to see your second film.

Thank you guys so much for the feedback! I appreciate it very very much.

I sent this short film into a film festival for the northern region of Ontario called Cinefest Sudbury.

This film was submitted into the open Amateur Open category. They then pick a TOP 10 from the films. ( there are not that many )

It was disappointing to hear I did not make the top 10. And believe me, ( not to sound like a jerk ) but i've seen other top 10 winners in the past and I could not even believe they got a spot.

R&R productions is just a name me and my buddy came up with. It's non-profitable, and we don't work for money, only to have a name.

For the competition, we took out the R&R logo and everything.

In the fine print on the submission for it says :

The competition is open to amateur videomakers only. To qualify as an amateur, the maker must not be currently involved in the commercial production of videos. The jury has the final decision on the distinction between amateur and professional. As a guideline, commissioned work will be deemed professional, and therefore ineligible.

was it cause it was "TOO" professional?
2 guys making a movie in a basement, no budget, whatsoever.
