this is something I haven't found a lot of info on...i'm producing a surf film going to dvd very soon here and when adjusting the levels to the 0-100ire standard sometimes adjusting the blacks to 0 IRE can cause the image to look a bit washed out.....can i get away with having the black levels below 0IRE or will that cause clipping or interference with the audio??

cheers,

ps. yes my tv is properly calibrated with grey scales, color bars etc etc.

yes, the whites and if you use your vectorscope keep an eye on the red levels, they are the main cause of interference with the audio.

still wondering about the black levels if they are okay to be below 0 IRE?

My footage of surfing was dark at times and increasing the blacks causes some of it to look washed out and flat, definitely not as sharp and colorful as it could be.
