Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner

For fans of BR: This new documentary on the making of Blade Runner is absolutely phenomenal. It's part of an incredible new 5 disc HD-DVD Collector's Edition I picked up for $35 at Best Buy.

So many things I never knew about the film, and so many fascinating outtakes too.

Here's an interesting fan review at imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1080585/

HIGHLY recommended for hardcore BR fans, (me) and even for scifi geeks.

Yeah, I spent a week recently watching the whole 5 disc set. I loved Dangerous Days. It's a perfect companion piece for Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner.

Agreed. It was interesting that they included interviews of the author of "Future Noir" too. Great book.

One thing I always suspected about the Unicorn scene was that those shots might've been tests for "Legend", but with a dual purpose. Bingo. :)

Oh yeah, I don't think there was much doubt where the Unicorn scene came from.

I also find the argument over Deckard being a replicant interesting. Quite obviously, Scott believed he was. On the other hand, Hampton Fancher believed he wasn't. Philip K. Dick's Deckard was not a replicant, either.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the Deck/Rep argument. I love the suggestion of it but I think it's one of those things better left unsaid.

I think its great that people can read into it what they like. I love it when a film poses two possible answers.

Dangerous days is an amazing behind the scenes. I thought the 3 hour making of for the original Star Wars trilogy was excellent, but this goes that bit further.

Definately worth the purchase. And I like the 'fixes' in the final cut. Nowhere near the amount of Medling that Mr. Lucas did to the OT. I'm not lucas bashing as the man is a genius, but the whole blade runner package now is tops !

100% agreed.

I think it's one of the best BTS extras I've ever seen. It's just stunning.

I'm really happy with the fixes too, and now I feel like Blade Runner is truly complete. I think the slight tweaks to the unicorn dream scene made it work much better.

On another subject:

I had a HD broadcast recording of the '92 Director's Cut on my DVR for nearly two years. I've watched it a few times, and the quality is nearly as good as the HD-DVD, but the sense of ownership was never there.

WIth all this talk of future downloadable HD movies, (presumably to own) much like music on iTunes--I feel that a virtual library on a hard drive is sorely lacking in comparsion to tangible media such as HD-DVD/Blu Ray.

Long live shiny plastic discs!

I completely agree. When I want just one some from an album, I download it from iTunes. But if I want more, I buy the CD rather than downloading it. I like the extras you get...liner notes, composer's names...
