Damn file keeps off lining!!!

I have this one stupid a$$ fooking file that was working fine and I used it in my edits but i noticed i was missing some files so I reimported the last P2 card. All the files went offline and I had to restart but this one file stayed offline and now that fooker just wont come back. I tried re-importing the P2 files and tried making another numbered folder and copied the audio and video files in it and the sh1t still wont come back. The other files in that card comes back except for this one. WTF!!!
I trashed the database files anywhere I could find any also. I tried right clicking on the file and relinking and that sh1t didn't work.

:furious3:

Is it possible that the clip spanned two cards, and you are missing part of the clip? I don't know Avid, so just throwing that out there.

You could always try opening a new project, import all the P2 clips into a bin and then going back to your original project and importing the bin from the new project.

I have been doing that and they still off line. What I had to is edit with the temp clips to bin and keep the project open so i dont have to keep reimporting.
None of the clips spanned across 2 cards because we had waaay more than enough time to dump so we dumped when we changed set ups. Some cards only have 1 take on them so i wound up with like 16 folders. I'm wondering if I should have just waited till the card filled so I would have less folders for Avid to handle.

What version of Xpress Pro? 5.7 handles P2 a lot better than the previous versions. I know you've got all of the taboos about upgrading mid-project, but knowing what version you're on can help in troubleshooting.

Ah, Media Composer ... well, that puts me out of the conversation. I have very, very little MC experience. Very sorry. I hope you find a resolution soon.

i'm glad you're here, beat - you're a great filmmaker!

i just had stuff like your's happening, also on MC 2.7. and the fix had to do with the metadata on the MXF files spanning across several files. i think it went like this:
move (and/or copy) all MXFs from the p2 dir tree to avid dir tree
(delete the bin where some media shows offline).
shut down avid!
delete media databases
restart avid, it will rebuild the media databases
re-access all the media (current project? i use per-project media directories) with the media tool
drag the media to a new bin
for me, all was online after this excercise

i think the jist of this is that if any of the MXF data is NOT accessible to avid when it creates its database the metadata doesn't get read correctly.
