damaged DVX base

Hello,

After about 10 times using the camera in tripod and installing/removing mattebox, I found the base damaged, some wrecks there and just sliding my finger opened a hole (see photo):

So my base disintegrated, I understand the base is plastic and pressing it you can fell it is not resistant. I never got a problem like that with my other cameras.

Anyone knows if I can buy a replacement base for my camera ? I'm Brazil and it is hard to send the camera back to Panasonic.

Thanks for any info,
Ulisses

Yes,

One option is drawing a new base in autocad, laser cutting a metal with correct holes, black fishing and replacing it.

Anyone already did that ?

Thanks,
ulisses

..from the looks of it you might be putting way too much pressure on the mount screw when you mount it. it looks almost like an impression was left b the tripod head. ...unless thats rubber markings, or dust from a very dirty tripod head.

I'm connected with a company here in Los Angeles that could do that for you, for (probably) a reasonable fee.

You're putting some wicked pressure on that baseplate, so a metal replacement plate would be good for you. Are you lifting up the camera/tripod using the handle on the camera? It looks like you're doing that or screwing the matte box baseplate in maniacally tight.

Iam... maybe it was much pressure, anyway it should be more resistant.

Sad Max.... I just got in touch with a friend that works in a laser cutting company and tomorrow I'll draw a new plate in autocad. Next week I post pictures here from the result.

Anyway I'd like to buy a replacement from Panasonic, not sure if it is possible.

Thanks !

Barry, maybe the mattebox was tight because it has only one screw to fix it.

Thanks,
Ulisses

I thought so. The DVX100 isn't fragile, but it's not built for pro-level abuse. The baseplate/tripod socket is the weakest part of the camera. Panasonic does sell the base plate as a replacement part, other people on the board have replaced their plates after getting them damaged. I'm looking forward to see the photos of your custom plate.
