SHORT: Daisy Chain

Hi folks, this is my first attempt at making a short film so it was an interesting learning experience. I'm a schoolteacher in Japan, so I got some gear and with some help from friends managed to complete it. It has problems, but the mistakes that were made taught me a lot and hopefully the end result is entertaining. I hope to make some other shorts this year, that's my New Year's resolution! I'm also considering going back to school for some formal training as I didn't pursue this passion until recently. Read a few books, but I'm not under any illusions about my inexperience so any feedback or advice is absolutely welcome and much appreciated! Thanks.

It was technically sound for a first effort. Certainly better than my first short.

The story wasn't really my thing. Also, it seemed a little too obvious in places. On the nose dialogue, fairly familiar topic (believe it or not, seen many stories in this vein, particularly as shorts), etc.

I like the song, did you license it?

Congratulations on making your first short film.

Thanks for the feedback Martay. I know what you mean about the story, I wrote it very quickly and carelessly. It is intended to be slightly campy and ridiculous. In retrospect, without dumping on the entire story, I would have put a lot more focus on comedic aspects. For example, "Daisy" would have been a drunk, instead of being so unrealistically stupid. It's funny you should mention that cannibalism is a familiar topic in short films. I guess the concept is so revolting that it's seen as a cheap and easy way to achieve impact of some sort. As for the song, it ain't mine. I like it too. I made the short for my own educational purposes, so the video is not really going to see the light of day again once it stops getting feedback. I'm not much of a horror movie fan myself, but I thought it would be a good place to start experimenting seeing as it made things more fun while we were making it.
