D90

I bought my D90 with much excitement but it almost immeadaitely began to fade once I 1.) looked at what had been done with the camera by others (didn't do a lot of research) and 2.) since I tried using the camera myself.

But since then (about six months ago since I got it) I have seen some really nice things done with the D90 and I am encouraged to experiemnt at a little further. Have a bunch of people just gotten good at using this camera or am I just kidding myself about the skill of D90 uers getting tighter and the films getting better?

Also does the D300s provide any real improvement?

The D300s is an improvement. More on the photography side. The video is better but close to the D90.

I have no idea what you just said, but yeah for video only the D300s is not worth the upgrade. If you want to shoot better jump camps and go Canon 7D

Today at work we picked up a D300s mainly to use as a time lapse camera. Of course upon first glance I threw this bad boy into live view and shook the absolute hell out of it; to check the rolling shutter jello of course. Is it still there; Yes. Is there an improvement over the D90; Yes. The noise in the shadows seams to be less and the alias problems seem to be gone. Over the next few weeks I will have a better understanding on how much better the D300s is over the D90. So far it looks good.

Let us know

Any particular reason? I thought you could use adapters with Nikon glass on the 7D.

True.
Unfortnatley Nikon has forced me into a 'strategy' mode. My advice is based upon my hopes that Nikon will come out with a better video body in their next D800/D400 iteration. In the meantime it makes sense (for some) to go with the cheapest competitive body that offers full manual control - that would be the GH1.

Lenses don;t lose a ton of value... if you're gonna go Canon you may as well sell all your Nikon glass, IMO.

why?? Zim and now you are under some sort of weird misconception that because you have a canon camera you need to use canon glass and sell all of your Nikon lenses. This is totally untrue. Why would you do that when they work perfectly well with an adapter ? Why would you when Nikon or Canon may come out with a better HDSLR in the near future? I have more Nikon lenses then any other and I have a couple Canon cameras with a Nikon collecting dust. It may be different in 8-12 months.

sell your Nikon's cause you are buying a Canon??? sorry... that's the worst advice I have heard so far

Yep, if i go canon im def dumping all my nikon glass, but i dont have much.

(50mm 1.8, 28mm 2.8, 70-300mm sigma)

So dumping nikon all together isnt a big deal for me.

Ive never found the appeal of the GH1. Just seems so much lesser photo wise and lens selection wise.

Id rather stick with the big 2.

Most people seem to use Nikon glass with the GH1 for video.

I agree - its not a great stills camera, my assumption is that, given this is the dvxuser forum, people are primarily interested in video.

If you're interested in both video & stills you can't beat the 5Dm2.

With the promise of a 24p patch I think the 5DMK2 will be back on top. I think I'm going to sit with my D90 until the new patch is released and then get the 5DMK2 for HDSLR video.

I've been a Nikon user for 35 years and the main reason I haven't changed to Canon is because of the investment I have in Nikon glass. I shoot a D90 for panoramas and specialty video and a D200 for time-lapse. Would I love to have a 5D? You bet but it's not in the cards right now.

I own an HVX200 but am impressed enough with the EX-3 that I've rented the Sony twice for both the Golf Channel and Fox Sports. Each camera has it's own qualities that make it the best choice for different situations.

The 5D is an incredible camera that produces spectacular images but so is the D90. Each camera is only as good as our talent allows. I feel that you make a choice and make the most of the technology available.

Every great DP proves time and time again that it is the eye of the shooter and not the camera that produces the best image.

Ford or Chevy??? I drive a Toyota Tundra!
