D90 to GH1?

You could enjoy all the features of the GH1 (or 7D) and still have the footage look like your D90. Just apply a gaussian blur.

But, like you say, it's all a matter of personal taste. I used to use Unsharp Mask on all my D90 footage.

I find that GH1 has a much more film like image than either D90, 5DmkII or 7D - but with 30+ years of working with film and never gone to film school what do I know. As for grain, with D90 you are stuck with the jpeg ant noise, with GH1 you can decide to add in post as much and what kind you like.

i switched from d90 to gh1and 7d.

got the gh1 first.

it felt grrrreeeeeeeeeeat, but i miss the nikon for stills.

You will lose some ability with stills. D90 is better in some respects, but for video most agree GH1 is slightly better. That said, the 7D is better than both. If your giong to upgrade go all the way, not a half way upgrade to the GH1.

NO 7D? NO CARE!

Not all the posters agree that the 7d is better. Some pros say that the aliasing makes it unsuitable for pro TV work.

Theirs also heating issues with prolonged usage when in 720 60p. I've had the GH1 for over 4 months and most of my shooting is 720 60p. With all of the shooting that I've done, I would have destroyed a 7D. I did start to worry a little bit about my GH1 when I first heard about that but so far so good.

What are all of you smoking? :P

D90 BLOWS GH1 out the water! The things the GH1 has going for it is less jello, less moire, and manual control. None of this really is a problem for most projects, and if you use the D90 sensibly anyway.

The colour on the D90 and the grain is the most pleasing out of all the cameras. It's like a love hybrid between betacam and 16mm.

The GH1 looks like videotape, but with more pixels. I'm serious. It looks so much late 80s video, it even has that "colour laser printer" style grain/streak across the entire image. And when conditions are best, it looks like Living TV to me. Not that it's bad... afterall most people here like that look. But I will disagree .

If I were you I'd just borrow your brother's d90, or wait, or plunge for a 7d.

Its for these exact reasons I sold my d90 for gh1 and in love with it
