d90 as a 'video snap camera'

i've been interested in photography for sometime now, and now i find myself also interested in hd video.. especially with my d90!

i am NOT a videographer. i know very little about making videos! but i do know some things about making photos.

i realize one potential of the d90 is to use it to capture 'video snap shots'... therefore, keeping in mind composition, and other rules of photography, that apply to video... here is my first result, and i think i will be making more videos like it.

it was kind of a quick sketch, so its not perfect, but i think its a very nice way that blends photography and video together, and it will give me practice to make better videos in the long run... what do you think?

does anybody else use the d90 this way? what are your main subjects?

You have the right idea, all good shots and well planned out etc... This is a very important step to making good videos and it seems you have this concept down pretty well.

My film production professor basically put it sort of like this.

To make good videos/movies/films its about a lot of things.

You need to be a good writer, have a good eye for shots (which you seem to have), be a good camera person, good editor, etc... etc...

Id say your next step is to work on writing something (even something simple) and put your skills to use creating a story.

keep shooting (+ writing)

Agreed. Writing is the cheapest. Writing is the most difficult to master. Writing is the best sure way. Writing makes the biggest difference.

I think the idea of "video snapshots" is a good one. I recently visited a blog/website that posted video in this fashion. Instead of writing and editing lengthy pieces, short videos of interesting moments were posted. It's an effective technique if you want to present your material on the Internet.

10 secs in I can see you didnt lock the exposure(causing your lighting levels to flutter up and down on their own). If you dont know how get the D90 FAQ from here and learn it , love it, live it.

Also, if this is handheld, you have very steady hands.

i appreciate that jon :D yes, it was all handheld.. i just remeber the analogy "think that i'm carrying a hot cup of coffee, full to the top" lol

as for the FAQ section on D90, i'll definitely print it, as i have a long flight in a couple of days.. will be nice to read

thx again!
