D90 - 5D Shootout Request

Now that the 5D is out there and getting into the right hands, I'd like to request a detailed video comparison of the two. I know Zacuto has a shootout right now, but I'd like to see an in depth battle between just the 5D and D90.

Well, I'm in the market to buy a new DSLR and so far my budget will allow me to either get a D90 with two nice lenses or get a 5D with one nice lens. I am interested in how each camera's short comings surface during a shoot.

I'd like to see some side by side comparisons of each camera to aid in my decision. After all, investing in a DSLR is a big commitment since I will be buying more lenses in the future. I want to make the most educated decision I can.

Get the 5D. It's the better option right now! I produced the Zacuto shootout and personally I'd wait a generation at least, but if you have to pull the plug and take the plunge... 5D all the way.

neither is good enough if you expect the best, i got the d90 because it shoots 24p and is extremely affordable. the d5mk2 shoots sharper videos but they're 30p, still not perfect, and for that kind of money i tend to expect more. it's probably better to wait for the next generation if experimenting isn't your main reason as it was for me.

Experimenting isn't my main reason. I currently own an EX1 and want to use the DSLR to insert shots with a shallow depth of field, every now and then, into my finished projects. I would not be using it as a primary video camera. I currently don't own a DSLR so I figured it'd be nice to have one and these new video DSLRs seem like a perfect match for me.

I am afraid to invest in an adapter when their resale value will soon be next to nothing.

Having looked at footage from the EX1 because I'd considered it as an A-Roll camera, I think that the 5D2 matches that look better than the D90. Presuming you can deal with the retiming, or since its B-Roll maybe you can just interpret it at 24fps, I would think the 5D2 would be better for your needs.

As far as investing in an adapter, I wouldn't consider the higher priced ones at this time, but some of the lower cost or used ones might still be practical, you wouldn't be risking much money and neither the Nikon or the Canon have things like variable frame rate, shutter speed control, etc. I guess it depends upon your needs with form factor and lighting. I doubt that a used Letus would depreciate more than a new 5D2 body over the next year.
