D800 press release

No, the problem is that you are too quick to shoot over... Or perhaps to start to make assumptions about what you think others are used to shoot and edit (or not) : D

Personal stuff means nothing. Japanese culture has teached to the world something really worthy of notice:

Don't judge even what YOU think you know, yet according to your personal opinion, say thanks if you feel to say anything. Or say just nothing.

;-)

Not only academic.

As matter of fact, with lesser time to be, since the other half part doesn't let me ;) But fully necessary, yes :)
School must suck because your grammar and reasoning suck lil. With lesser time to be? Who writes like that?

Seeing how the sensors have extreme number of megapixels, XQD and CF, that they could just go full 2k and have a 1080p option. Then a soft 2k could be sharp 1080 for those that can accommodate a post workflow.

An FX sensor should also be able to handle windowed DX 60p, no?

Sorry, I know this makes no sense, and I am complaining.

Yeah DX 60p at least, but it should be able to do 60p 1080p on FX too. The Sony NEX-5N can do 60p 1080p. Surely the D4 and D800 have more processing power than the Sony cheapie. Maybe we'll have to petition for a firmware update. Nikon ignored us with the D90 petition and it cost them a lot of money in lost sales to Canon. I think now they're listening. It also makes no sense to have a lightning fast recording medium like XQD and only have a lowly 24Mbit/s bit-rate. We've heard rumours that Canon is going to have a more professional codec in future DSLRs, have Nikon not heard this? Why don't these companies grow a collective brain and incorporate scalable bit rates into their DSLRs? Hackers have done it for us with magic lantern.

here's my checklist for my next camera purchase for narrative film and commercial stills work with the 5D being the current benchmark-
low light +2-3 stops
no chroma noise
dynamic range 14+ DXO mark
better codec
uncompressed 4:2:2 8-10bit out
no aliasing/moire
no rolling shutter
1080p 60p
no overheating

I mostly dual system my sound but a headphone out would be a welcome addition too.

People go on and on about the softness of DSLRs but I've never had a real problem with it, maybe because I use Leica glass and I don't do a lot of big wide landscape shots.

Whats abouts others 138.999s? (thats is, ifs mys posts is alreadys includeds ins this googles searchs... :D)

Funny you hadn't found yet I am not a native speaker of english or there is english to be spoken in such different forms allover the world ;-I Nobody owns a language, for your infomation. I started to learn this when I GREW UP and began to see the brazilian portuguese to be stronger wordwide than the form(s) adopted where the idiom born. Go figure if one day you need to adopt in your own orthography words used by others than you...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reforms_of_Portuguese_orthography

Then, you may be able to say "I don't like it!" LOL

But unable to say why or because others fail according to (or should I go directly to and type: "in accordance with"? Tell me you! :-D)

...Mr. cinebuddy ya' yeah [LINK]

OK, back to topic in this page too ;) I agree with you, Anthony. They're listening. The proof is this release of two different versions of the same camera.

I also second you that glass is key.

[ also sensor size. Take a look in this comparative: http://vimeo.com/19956471 ]

Since the beginning I've posted here my own findings (by written testimony, yes, e.g. Kholi and Hunter have given to these forums beyond than that : ) I even remember to have discussed this (glass wise) with Barry when he was pointing the fact that a blurry codec will never be able to resolve 1080 resolution. Well, now we have the HDMI output choice (as Miguel/macgregor well pointed out in these boards that to call it uncompressed is not a matter of distinct orthography like the english of my own LOL but pleonasm ;-) once all HDMI are uncompressed outputs by default).

Earlier (is my comparative form good enough now to your book, cinebuddy? :-) than to have a better camera offer to surely come, we can always go with a dual route: D4 + D800E route for those landscape shots without power lines :-D or trying the Caprock workaround (there is here @dvxuser an interesting article by Barry) as same as 5DII + GH series combo before.

I have been saving for the Sony FS100 for a while now with intention of getting one in late April. With the release of this guy though, I am torn. The FS100 will still beat this out for low light performance, right? What are you guys opinons on one versus the other. Thanks.

The FS100 vs the D800 for video?.....go with the FS100 all day every day. This camera has such a packed sensor that low light will not be it's strongest suit. It's roughly the same pixel density as a D7000 or 7D/60D/T3i, so still good as all DSLRs seem to be vs 1/3 and 2/3 cams, but not as good the FS100 or the D4 or 1DX. The FS100 has a much lower MP sensor to start with, it has proper audio, a better monitor, better options for video hands down.

Thanks for the info Pulpfiction. You brought up some specifics I was wondering about.

emanuel... cinebuddy.... you two love birds take that **** outside.
Warning noticed. And you're doing your job. Well done as usual. But let's not dramatize too much. I bet cinebuddy is a nice guy outside so we should all be fine :-) As said before, personal stuff doesn't belong to here. The only challenge we can be committed with, is to try to overcome any personal overview in something not pointless. And move on.

Yes, as Anthony (squig) has pointed out, a much bigger pixels' size going with the D4 route is a more friendly option.

Speaking of 2/3" sensors... and adding to my last entry:

(,,,)
Here is an interesting 2/3" global shutter sensor offer (bye bye rolling shutter) that could be an alternative to those avid for the defunct 2/3" Scarlet (not my case as anyone who had followed my posts here could notice along the six years I'm posting on dvxuser):

xD Squig, you're one of the most dedicated to the movement of waiting until you get just about everything for nothing. I'm impressed. Muahaha

:-D I'm not so sure of that, Kholi. Anthony has embraced the DSLR movement a way before any one of us : ) He was an early adopter of the D90, later 5DII... I guess you (we ;) can both compete in the same glass league anyway ;-)

The Hamburg footage looks really nice. Thanks for positng this. I have sent the company an e-mail to find out more info. Scarlet 2/3" was going to be a fit for me.

They're both Sony sensors and the FS100 has a lower megapixel count and will certainly be better than the D800 in low light. The D3s is the DSLR low light king and the D4 is rumoured to have a stop over the D4. There's 3 issues I have with the FS100- highlight rolloff, it can't shoot stills, it doesn't shoot full frame. The issues I have so far with the D4 are- no 60p 1080p, and aliasing/moire may be a problem. The FS100 certainly will produce a sharper image but that's not a huge issue for me. The FS100 also has a lot of control over picture profiles but as long as I can get a flat image out of the D4 I'll be satisfied. The FS100 has all the usual pro video bells and whistles like that aren't really necessary for narrative work.

I expect we'll see an FS100 D4 shootout in the near future. They are both at a similar price point, are great in low light, and both do uncompressed 4:2:2 out so they are ripe for comparison.

Here we go.

Do I run out and buy every body as soon as it comes out? no. Why? Because I don't have the money and I don't rent out bodies. I have 2 cameras a 5D and a NEX-5N. I've given hundreds of people advice about DSLR rigs, vintage prime, and anamorphic lenses here and over at cinema5D. I also did some magic lantern beta testing which led to the CBR bit-rate scaling implementation. I don't mind people taking the piss but your comment just sounds spiteful and is unjustified. Grow up Kholi.
