I just picked up a Nikon D800 yesterday and have been familiarizing myself with its functionality. Loving the image quality and features so far. But I've discovered an odd wrinkle when connected to my old Marshall HD-compatible monitor via an HDMI to component video converter (I know it's an outdated monitor, I could buy a newer/better one etc., but let's just set that aside for the moment). Here's what I'm puzzled by:
1) With the camera in "live view" mode, the image displays on the Marshall when in 'still camera' mode (as selected by the switch to the lower right of the D800's LCD display), but not in 'movie camera' mode. I get a blank blue screen *until I start recording video*, then it displays fine.
2) The Marshall also displays a blank blue screen in movie playback mode, but only when it's actually playing; before playback, the still image displays normally (the first frame of the video clip presumably); hitting 'play' blanks it out to blue. When connected to two other TV screens (a Sony 17" LCD and a Pioneer 50" Plasma) via Component using the same HDMI>Component adapter, it plays back fine. It also plays back fine directly via HDMI to the Plasma.
3) With the Component video pass-through outputs on the Marshall connected to the Sony LCD, it plays fine on the Sony again, but still blank/blue on the Marshall.
4) All D800 menus, etc. appear normally at all times on the Marshall.
5) When connected to a cable TV box at 1080i (which is evidently the default movie playback resolution on the D800) the Marshall displays just fine.
Anyone have an explanation for all of this?
TIA
