D7000 picture settings

If I've missed a thread here, my apologies, but I don't recall seeing much discussion of picture settings on the D7000.

Personally, I'm shooting with the stock 'Neutral' preset, which seems pretty good for skin tones and looks OK straight from the camera while retaining some headroom for grading. Blacks look a little crushed to my eye, though, and I've not really had chance to play around with fine-tuning.

For an out-of-the-box profile Neutral seems remarkably good, and it's very 'Nikon', but I wonder if anyone's done proper tests on any of this stuff? Care to share?

I used modified neutral, setting sharpening, and contrast to minimum. I tried setting saturation to minimum but found that didn't add much dynamic range, just added a step in post.

Also the camera (or your eye if you're working manual as you should) will want to overexpose because of the lower contrast. You want to be down ~0.3-0.5 stops.
