D7000 malfunction in still mode through viewfinder

For some strange reason my d7000 will not auto-focus (hunting for focus throughout focus range of the lens and stops) and it seems exposure meter in viewfinder is a bit off. In live view mode, it works fine taking stills and taking videos.

Has anyone heard anything like this?

Just got off the phone with Nikon service person. They never heard anything like this. My d7000 will be sent to them soon.

I used nikkor 50mm f1.8, nikkor 18-55, tamron 28-75. I tried AF-S, AF-F, or what have you on anything I could find indoor and outdoor. Like I said everything works fine in live view mode, but nothing works in viewfinder mode. Strange.

I got my d7000 back from service center yesterday!! Good to have it serviced under warranty. I wish they'd explained what they had found though.

You didn't perhaps happen to assign AF-ON to f5: Assign AE-L/AF-L button?
Just an idea. (I'm currently experimenting with this setting.)
