Is there a way to have image only in the hdmi output when recording as it is when playing back the videos ?

Oh, right. Yeah, it always has the overlay of the instruments/controls. Isn't the output through HDMI also limited to 720p when recording?

Yes - it's 720p when recording and when in live view. The only time it's 1080 is when you play back recorded footage.

And in live view/recording, the image does not cover the full 720p HDMI signal. The image is reduced and centered. My guess is that you are seeing a 960x540 image, surrounded by various info displays in the letter/pillar boxing.
