D7000 editing best workflow?

Hi,

I was wondering what you think is the best workflow for handling the D7000 footage in post. I am on a mac, but I would like to be able send edited footage to people using windows for SFX. I'm on an older computer, so editing the files as AVCHD is not possible.

It seems most are converting to prores on import, but then you can't edit in windows right? I just emailed Cineform, to ask if their Neoscene codec supports the D7000. I was told it does not since the D7000 uses Motion JPEG, and the Neoscene is for AVCHD. I am sure they are wrong about the AVCHD, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in that Cineform have tested the D7000 at all.

What do you guys do? Any suggestions for codecs and workflows?

I don't do heavy longform editing, but so far I've been able to cut in FCP using the original H264 codec. Imports in to FCP and any motion graphic program I throw it at. I have a pretty fast MacPro, and even so it will occasionally bog down.

BTW, D7000 does not use motion JPG or AVCHD. It's H264.

I guess on the new update for neoscene it will. They said it would. Waiting patiently for it.

there a prores codec for windows afaik so that's not a problem, or you can convert the edited footage to uncompressed after the fact. but you can also send them the original files and an edl, most vfx artists would probably prefer that ayway. the camera doesn't have timecode (right?) but the one generated by the edl along with the clip name works fine.

btw for the record avchd is also h.264, it's just limited in parameters and the container is fixed. any h.264 codec can pkay avchd but not vice versa.
