D7000 battery life with EN-EL15?

Hi, what kind of battery life are you guys getting out of the D7000/EN-EL15 for video production? Just purchased this camera, and was hoping to get an initial estimate so I can just go ahead and place an order for batteries, an extra charger or two, etc. right now. Thanks for a head's up.

At the weekend I shot about an hour and twenty minutes of rushes, which used about two-thirds of a battery. I was mostly tripod-mounted and hence had lens stabilisation off, but the camera was usually kept powered on between takes, in live view, over a shoot that stretched for about five hours. I'd guess it was in live view for at least three hours.

I don't know how many stills a battery will manage, but I believe it's more than 800 in RAW format.

In my book, D7000 battery life is nothing short of remarkable. I bought one spare 'just in case', but haven't used it yet.

Last night I was on set for 6 hours with two batteries. The second battery still was half full when we finished.

Ye, I get excellent life out of my batteries. Since the start-up time is so short, I usually conserve in relaxed shooting environments - turn the camera off when not shooting - I'm usually able to shoot up to 1.5-2 hours on one charge. I usually end up switching batteries every 5 or 6 hours.

I got the extra MB-D11 battery pack and can shoot for days without running out of power. The benefit of the battery pack is that it comes with 2 battery trays: you can run it either on another rechargeable EN-EL15 Li-Ion battery or 6 AA batteries, so I don't have to worry about recharging during a busy day out on a set. Just pop in new AA batteries and you are good to go for at least another day or more.

We always use rechargeable AA batteries (eneloop e.g.) here.

Battery life seems to depend very much on the shooting style when shooting stills. For example the manual says that one battery will do about 1k shots; My (new) battery was at 20% with about 140 pictures. Burst mode vs. taking the time for a good picture?

Are you sure? eneloops are really good, and they have about the same capacity as the EN-EL15. I'd expect similar battery life, and don't believe anything else until proven differently :)

My remark, by the way, was referring to Giganova's post («new AA batteries»); non-rechargeable batteries are gone here. The battery life I experienced was with the EN-EL15.

shooting stills, I get a lot of battery life out of the D7000 (though not as much as I did with the D300). I shot behind-the-scenes stills on a student film recently and it was day 2 or 3 of the shoot before I had to recharge a battery.

shooting video is a different story, though. I shot video at a wedding a month or two ago, and my battery ran out after maybe 2 (3 at a stretch, I wasn't counting) hours of shooting. I had a spare battery, and I've since also bought a battery grip (which I now cannot live without when it comes to shooting stills!). I would definitely recommend keeping a spare battery on hand if you're going to be shooting a lot of video. You can of course conserve your battery quite a bit by switching off live view when you're not shooting, too.

Battery runs out after I'm switching out my 16 gig card for another. That's about 2 hours worth of juice. I don't use more than 3 batteries for a full day of wedding coverage.
